Welcome!
The end of the school year is very close here in Mexico, but… that is not slowing us down! We would like to tell you about a program that we are launching in three different states. This program is focused on empowering teenagers by reducing risks and helping them become entrepreneurs.
Why is this necessary?
Because in Mexico the population aged 15 to 29 years represents around 20% of the total population. In addition, there aren’t any conditions that allow growth in human capital or that generate adequate employment opportunities in both a dynamic and stable job market. Young Mexicans receive poor training and personal skill development which negatively impacts their job opportunities.
So, as an answer to these circumstances, we have started a program that focuses on financial education, culture of saving and entrepreneurship that will allow the consolidation of participants’ small businesses or productive activities. We are working in three places with vulnerable communities from the State of Guadalajara, State of Mexico and State of Hidalgo. By the end of this program, we are hoping to have around 1,500 new businesses led by young entrepreneurs.
We are a few months into the beginning of the program and are happy to share some of the testimonies:
“I realized that in order to make decisions about my business, I have to not only think about my passion or emotions, I also have to think objectively.” –Woman, 16 years old
“I know now that a business needs a strong foundation, which includes knowing you, having clear goals, searching for information and being very very unprejudiced.”- Man, 24 years old
“I leave today feeling fulfilled, continuing my self-awareness exercises, knowing my barriers and obstacles to conquer.” – Woman, 19 years old
“My experience was very pleasant since I learned about my abilities and what I can achieve with them. Now I understand that many of my barriers are self-made.”- Man, 20 years old.
This program will last three years, so we are now in the early stages. We will continue to keep you posted with our results, more testimonies and fun pictures of our young entrepreneurs in the making!
See you soon!
