At 22-months-old, “Ram” - suffering from severe diarrhea and pneumonia - was rushed to NYF’s Nutrition Rehabilitation Home (NRH) in Lalitpur. He was crying inconsolably - and was so ill and malnourished he couldn’t even stand on his own.
Ram needed 24/7 care at the NRH, but his worried mother was under pressure from her husband to come home: he was skeptical of healthcare, and didn’t understand how severe the circumstances were.
The concerned staff at the NRH met with both of Ram’s parents to discuss their sick child’s deteriorating health. They went over the potentially fatal consequences of sending Ram home without care, and explained in detail how the specialized treatment process could save their little boy. Ram’s father finally understood, and, reassured, agreed to let his wife and Ram stay at the NRH to receive care.
Within 26 days, Ram gained over 5 Ibs. His diarrhea was eradicated, and his pneumonia treated. Now a happy and healthy boy, he was officially discharged.
At the NRH, Ram's mother learned about nutrition, good hygiene, and how to grow and prepare local, healthy food. When she and Ram left for home, his mother thanked the NRH staff for all that they did to heal her baby. She was excited to share with other village mothers her new knowledge about keeping children healthy.
Thanks to your support, malnourished children like Ram are rehabilitated every single day. We - and they - are so incredibly thankful for friends like you.
