Cancer is an expensive disease, but the battle against cancer is considered niche. It doesn't help that there is a stigma associated with it and society shies away from it. We target 350-400 patients each month. Each approved case means that MAKNA support is guaranteed to be ongoing for the next 12 month period for that case, regardless of scenarios. In particular, for November 2016, the number of approved cases is 450.
Malaysia is a country with evitable gap between mean urban and rural gross HOUSEHOLD income (only 1,300 USD and 700 USD respectively - according to Malaysia Economic Planning Unit). The smallest contribution can mean the difference between life and death to many underprivileged cancer patients. Cancer is not incurable, yet the access to treatment is not, to all, equitable. Vast land and poor local health facilities dampen the spirit of newly diagnosed as well as those under treatments.
Increase their chance of survival! The project deals with a matter of life and death almost on a daily basis, and timely help in appliance provision mark a big difference. Understanding this need, one of the main goals of MAKNA Bursary Assistance is tackle effectiveness question when it comes to aid. MAKNA's Bursary team shall handle each new Bursary application and revert with approval within 14 working days, which answer the foremost question on timely alleviation of the patient's battle.
Under the Bursary Programme, cancer patients in the lower income groups of Malaysia ( ) who are undergoing treatment at government hospitals can apply to MAKNA for financial aid via the hospitals' medical social works department. Financial aid is provided in the form of necessities that include appliances, surgical equipments, non-formulary drugs and also a monthly allowance for those who need it most.
