Welcoming our New School Support Staff on Nusa Lembongan
On January 15th , 2019, Bottle for Botol welcomed Dara Datita Ginting, our new School Support Staff for the Nusa Lembongan area. Dara has a Bachelor Psychology from Udayana University – Denpasar. She is passionate about environmental education and the plastic pollution issue.
Dara will stay on Nusa Lembongan Island and monitor the Bottle for Botol program at our schools schools. She will act as the support for our teachers, to bridge the communication between BfB and the schools and work with the teachers and students to ensure the program runs smoothly.
On January 30th and 31st Dara made her first visit to Lembongan to meet the teachers and introduce her as the new School Support Staff. The introduction went well and Dara is now following up the program progress at schools in Lembongan.
We've won a new grant!
We're really excited to be working with Surfrider Perth and MOERK water solutions to deliver a giant water filter to Nusa Lembongan. The funding for this work is from Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia) through their Friendship Grant program. The tap water available in Nusa Lembongan is so salty that it shouldn't be drunk, so most of the drinking water on Nusa Lembongan is shipped from Bali Island. The new water filter will take ocean water and turn it into drinking water through a process known as desalination. Through this new project, we will be able to provide the community with plastic-free drinking water at a cheaper price than water shipped over from Bali. We look forward to beginning this project in the coming months.
