We are excited to share that we have already placed our first MVP with York College's Esports team and are now seeking more kids who want to be a part of a competitive, collegiate, video gaming team. Our TU41 Field Manager, Michael Spatz, is currently in the process of receiving inquiries from families and determining nearby colleges and universities that have an esports team our kids can join.
WHY ESPORTS?
COVID presented numerous challenges to TU41's programs and mission. As we moved through the pandemic, it became apparent that we needed to broaden the types of teams MVPs had a choice to join. Esports, which is competitive video gameplay, is fast-growing in popularity with colleges across the country. It offers our MVPs a chance to connect with a team virtually or in person, thus addressing some of the limitations placed on our mission due to social distancing restrictions.
Esports is also rising in popularity among youth in general and particularly with kids who have physical or developmental challenges. It is often regarded as a way to address inclusivity in sports and provides gamers the opportunity to learn valuable skills like communication, teamwork, and appropriate online behavior.
We're excited to add this sport to our Team Up For 1 programs, and look forward to connecting kids with challenges to collegiate esports teams!
