Final Report: M'bera Refugee Camp
By Ben Dwork | Global Communications Manager
GlobalGiving Project #75112
RET’S ACTIVITY IN M’BERA
- Mbera hosts ~120,000 Malian refugees in Mauritania — over 55% are under 18. Education is critical.
- Since 2019, RET has built and sustained a formal education system in the camp: schools, trained teachers, after-school centers, libraries, and a computer lab for digital skills.
- With funds raised through this GlobalGiving project, we purchased books for the camp library — directly supporting students' academic development and giving them access to learning materials they would otherwise not have.
- The library resources benefit children and young people across the camp, extending reach beyond classrooms and into self-directed learning.
REASON FOR PROJECT CLOSURE
- We are deactivating this project as part of a deliberate strategic re-prioritization of resources in M’bera.
- Our focus is shifting to food security — a critical and immediate need for the refugee population in the camp.
- This is not the end of RET's work in M’bera. We remain on the ground and commit to the community.
