On June 8, the first day of school, a powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck parts of Mindanao. Children ran in panic as buildings trembled and crashed around them. Many children were left frightened, traumatized. Help us set-up child-friendly spaces, provide psycho-social support for children and teachers, and immediate relief for displaced families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the earthquake.
What was meant to be a day of hope turned into a moment of fear. Strong and destructive, the earthquake had classrooms shaking. school grounds cracking, and roofs collapsing. Instead of beginning the school year with learning and laughter, many children were left frightened, traumatized, and uncertain of when-or if-they can safely return to school. Families are displaced in evacuation centers as homes are damaged; they lack the basic needs to survive the conditions they were not prepared for.
This assistance can help provide immediate relief for families and protection for children who are most vulnerable in this situation.
Sustained emergency support builds resilient children and communities. Psychosocial support improves coping, reduces trauma, and strengthens learning readiness. Child-friendly and temporary learning spaces restore safe routines, protect from harm, and prevent learning loss. Supporting teachers enhances long-term education quality, while community trust and preparedness for future crises are strengthened.
