Animal Aid Abroad (AAA) assists thousands of working animals globally who frequently endure inhumane conditions, such as extreme heat, inadequate water and feed, no veterinary care, beatings & mistreatment. With our partner groups, we aim to improve the lives of these often-abused animals via free veterinary programs, humane equipment, owner education & rescue where possible. Our Gifts that Give include equipment, medical treatment, feed or sanctuary to assist working animals in desperate need.
Working animals are still used in many developing countries and are often owned by people who are impoverished to help them earn a meagre wage. These animals frequently experience poor welfare, including malnourishment, dehydration, heat exhaustion, untreated injuries and illnesses, inhumane equipment and overwork. Sadly, some working animals are also subjected to serious mistreatment, abuse and neglect, or are even dumped by the side of a road.
AAA's Gifts that Give program improves working animals' lives by providing humane equipment, medical treatment, training or rescue operations. Equipment, such as harness padding for equines working in brick kilns, helps to prevent serious wounds from pulling heavy loads. Veterinary care can include treatment for wounds or worms to make working animals more comfortable, whereas rescuing equines will ensure that sick, injured, elderly or abandoned animals are taken to a safe sanctuary.
Through our programs, AAA addresses issues facing individual working animals, as well as creating positive changes in people's attitudes towards these gentle creatures. Our Gifts that Give offer small but meaningful ways to provide help for animals in need, whilst also initiating long-term shifts in owners' behaviour by encouraging compassion and care for working animals. Advancing working animal welfare also benefits the people and communities who rely on these animals for their livelihoods.
