We're proud 100% of our students have been accepted to university, but not always with full financial aid. NSFAS is South Africa's financial aid program, which many of our students rely on to cover university costs. Oftentimes, it can take 1-2 months to begin, so Imagine Scholar provides support for bus tickets, book money, or 1st month's rent through our Sustainable Student Opportunity Fund, a no-interest loan that any student can apply for and later repay so future youth can use as well.
South Africa's national loan program, NSFAS, which many Imagine Scholar students use, is oftentimes delayed in beginning payments to students. This leaves them in a tricky position to cover early costs like transportation, purchasing school supplies, groceries, and the fees to register.
In these instances, Imagine Scholar helps cover these costs through our Sustainable Student Opportunity Fund (SSOF). The SSOF makes possible an array of opportunities for our students and alumni, including covering university-related costs. This project will help cover the fees for 12 students as they embark on their university journeys.
By supporting this project, you will be helping make possible the dream of attending university, which comes with so many benefits for these students. They'll be exposed to new ways of thinking and learning, build new communities, and be beacons of inspiration for younger students in Imagine Scholar. The SSOF is also a pay-it-forward model, ensuring that the support these students receive will one day be paid forward to a future scholar, whether through mentoring, volunteering, or financially.
