Support the education of 200 children in Honduras

Dear friends, 

Some news for the first few months of 2024! 

Children have had the opportunity to engage in numerous enriching activities, as well as academic support with their school tasks, ensuring they get the right assistance for their educational needs.

Activities in which the children participate include: 

• Healthy leisure, such as playing soccer as part of a team. 
• Working with the land: ecological awareness and land utilisation. One of the highlights these past months has been gardening. Children have had the opportunity to engage in fun activities in the young gardeners’ plot. Every Saturday, they eagerly participate, dedicating themselves to cultivating plants in an enjoyable environment. 
• Culture, art and traditions, such as painting murals and making piñatas. 
• Assemblies, where they are able to practice positive communication, active listening, and expressing their interests. 

In adolescence, activities for personal and emotional balance are prioritised. We continue to support children with their studies, but we also encourage healthy activities with peer groups, where they can create their own present and future, complementing their growth.

The children of the Fundación Niños de Guarátaro have had many activities during these months in which they have enjoyed and learned. One of the most important milestones in Honduras is the Fiestas Patrias to commemorate the 202 years of independence of the country and the children participated in a parade dedicated to the flora, fauna and protected areas, as well as national identity, a very important aspect in the formation of the children to bring them closer to the culture of Honduras.  

Another of the activities of these months has been the celebration of Día de la Raza, which commemorates the arrival of Columbus to the Americas and the encounter of the two worlds and where the children learned more about this history and celebrate the date with drawings that reflect the Honduran roots. 

Last but not least, thanks to the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazón, last October we held a math Olympiad where the children were able to practice and enjoy playing with numbers.
