U-turn equips people with skills to overcome homelessness. We love to see our clients thrive in independence and employment.
Recently, Enver J and Nomawethu D shared their inspirational stories of rebuilding their lives after homelessness.
Meet Enver, groomed from a young age in gangsterism and drugs, Enver became homeless when his lifestyle became unmanageable.
“When my friend told me about U-turn, I was like, ‘Do they give food?’ And that was the only reason I really went there, to get something to eat because life was hard at that time.”
“When I got there the people was very welcoming. They treated me like I was something, it was a big change from when I was on the street because people treated me like I was nothing, so I felt like I was accepted. And then I started to learn about how to get my self-worth back, how to be a person in society again and it all started making sense to me that this is what I really wanted.”
Enver came through our doors because he was hungry. Today, he is sober, working in our Parow store, and rebuilding his life with courage.
Meet Nomawethu, life circumstances lead Noma to being housing-insecure in her early teens, leading to homelessness, trauma, addiction, gender-based violence and despair. She initially arrived at U-turn for basic needs and is now sober, in sheltered employment, has her own apartment and is reunited with her children.
Thank you for your support in helping people overcome homelessness.
