Cape Town has one of the highest homelessness rates in South Africa. Thousands of people live on the streets facing hunger, cold, violence and isolation. Without safe shelter or support, many become trapped in cycles of addiction, poor health and unemployment. People from all walks of life are affected, particularly minority groups. The community suffers too as public spaces become unsafe. Our beneficiaries are homeless men and women ready to take a first step toward change.
U-turn starts with the person. At our Homeless Service Centres people receive food, clothing, ablutions, safety and love. This care restores dignity and belonging and motivates change. From here clients move to rehab support, then to work readiness and reintegration. The four-phase pathway is proven to break the cycle of homelessness by combining immediate care with long-term solutions that lead to sobriety, employment and a stable home.
This project creates lasting outcomes: every graduate leaves U-turn sober, employed and housed. Our track record shows that over 80% maintain these outcomes long-term, proving change is sustainable.
