Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles County that is dedicated to helping homeless and low-income individuals find and retain employment and get on a pathway to self-sufficiency. Our philosophy is to offer a hand up, rather than a hand out, so that individuals acquire the necessary skills to reenter the workforce, including: basic computers skills, resume writing and interview skills. When you support Chrysalis, you are helping to end the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
The most recent survey estimated that there are 50,000 homeless people in Los Angeles County. The impoverished men and women who come to Chrysalis face multiple barriers to employment, including: low academic achievement, history of substance abuse, incarceration, and spotty work history.
Chrysalis' employment program removes the barriers to employment faced by our clients by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain a job, including: one-on-one case management, job skills classes, resume writing, practice interviews, basic computer skills, professional attire, transportation assistance, phone center and evening support groups. Additionally, Chrysalis works with partner agencies to provide clients with referrals for housing, medical care and mental health.
Chrysalis clients not only gain employment. Our services help them to regain a sense of self-worth and dignity so that they remain on a path of self-sufficiency for a lifetime. Clients often see their lives change 180 degrees. They start to save money, rent their own apartments, reunite with family and friends, and begin to see a bright future.
