Help Heal Children in Hospital - Laughter Heroes

By Themba Xapa | National Fundraising Manager

Our Laughter Heroes are more than just entertainers; they are emotional first responders for children facing some of life’s toughest battles.

They are an integral part of a heartwarming initiative, and are specially trained individuals who bring joy, therapeutic laughter, and emotional relief to children undergoing treatment for serious illnesses in public hospitals. The ripple effect and impact of their work is powerful: parents, nurses, and doctors often report feeling uplifted too. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t just about medicine—it’s about the human spirit.

The Laughter Heroes use tools like comedy, magic, mime, storytelling, and clowning to transform hospital wards into spaces of lightness and hope. They use humour as a therapeutic tool, but it’s not just about giggles. Laughter has real physiological benefits:

  • It reduces stress hormones like cortisol.
  • It boosts the immune system and improves heart health.
  • It helps manage pain perception and improves sleep.
  • And emotionally, it fosters connection, resilience, and hope.

Our Laughter Heroes are a beautiful reminder that healing isn’t just physical—it’s emotional too.
