Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is excited to announce that volunteers and staff have completed the final homes of Oregon’s largest Habitat site, Jubilee Commons!

Located in the Rockwood area of Gresham, Jubilee Commons includes 23 homes situated in a U-shape around a community center. The homes include one to four bedrooms and provides affordable housing to 42 adults and 56 children. Because Jubilee Commons was such a large project, it was built in four phases with families moving in after each building is occupancy ready. The fourth and final phase has been completed and the last nine families are ready to move in!

On behalf of the families who will move into their new Habitat homes this month, we send a heartfelt thank you for the overwhelming response to our calls for support throughout December and 2010. So many of you generously shared your hard earned money and carved out hours in your hectic schedules to help Habitat in the final push to complete 20 homes by the end of the year.

2010 was a year of great need as we experienced a 100 percent increase in the number of qualified families coming to us for help. In fact, in November, we received over 120 applications in our quest to select homeowners for the next 23 homes that we will build. While it is very difficult to decline qualified applicants, we simply try to focus on the 23 that received the call to start working on their 500 hours of sweat equity toward their new home.

With help from people like you, we believe that soon we will be able to help many more deserving families each year. We wish you a joy filled year ahead and thank you for your generosity that will continue to bless families for many years to come.
