Nike Global Mobility Specialists Help Build!

By Shannon Tennant | Development Manager

Nike's Global Mobility Specialists decided to take a day out of the office and get into the community by participating in Habitat for Humanity’s Team Builders program.

Team Builders is designed especially for corporate groups to come together for a day of team building and house building. This combination of volunteer hours and a financial donation doubles a group’s impact toward Habitat’s mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities in the Portland and Metro East area.

Determined to raise the $3,500 required to participate as a “Two-Story” Team Builders group, this human resources department decided to host an auction. Members of the group solicited gift certificates and items from local businesses, plus put themselves on the line for services like “one hour of golf swing analysis.”

This auction did better than anyone ever dreamed, raising over $5,000 in employee contributions which was matched 100% through Nike’s WE Giving portal—for a total of $10,378 in contributions to help Habitat for Humanity purchase home building materials.

On Friday, June 11, the team headed out to Lents Landing, where they helped to put finishing touches on the Rival-Lopez home that will be dedicated at the end of this month. They also helped to build the final four Habitat homes located at this nine-home Habitat for Humanity development in SE Portland. Each member of the team received a special Team Builders T-shirt, lunch and a continental breakfast in appreciation of their support.

If you’d like to see the group’s handiwork, Habitat for Humanity would love for you to come celebrate completion of the Rival-Lopez home on Saturday, June 26 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 6305 SE 97th Ave., Portland, OR 97266.

Thank you Lisa and David for coordinating the day!
