For Nour, a fourth-year medical student studying away from home, transportation was not just a community issue. It was personal.

After losing two close friends because they could not find safe transportation between cities, she became determined to help prevent similar tragedies from happening.

Through the Valuable Girl Project, Nour received leadership training and support that helped her and other young women develop solutions to challenges facing their communities.

Nour's team began by conducting research. They discovered a respected local leader who had been providing safe transportation informally for years.

The service was trusted and needed, but lacked the formal systems, outreach, and organization required to grow.

Working alongside him, Nour’s team helped turn the idea into a structured initiative. They designed ID cards, organized registration, and led a marketing campaign through Facebook and WhatsApp to recruit riders.

When progress stalled and others wanted to give up, Nour stayed committed.

"It takes strong conviction to get anywhere," she says.

By the end of the project, 280 people had registered for the service, and buses were carrying an average of 42 passengers per trip across two communities.

What started as a response to a heartbreaking loss became a sustainable, community-led transportation solution.
