July 2025 Update: 574 Wheelchairs & Counting!

By Jessica Gordon | Sweethearts Team Member

Dear GlobalGiving family,

Thanks to your continued support, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve handed over 22 wheelchairs so far in 2025, bringing our total to an incredible 574 wheelchairs gifted since we began in 2014!

Each wheelchair tells a story of freedom, dignity, and opportunity — and your generosity makes every one of those stories possible.

Real People, Real Impact

This year’s recipients have included:

  • A 6-year-old boy who can now attend school independently for the first time

  • A retired factory worker in a rural village who can finally leave his home without assistance

  • A young woman with cerebral palsy who’s now exploring work-from-home opportunities with her new power chair

Your donations don’t just fund wheelchairs — they restore independence, ease the load on caregivers, and open doors to education, employment, and inclusion.

A Message from a Recipient

"Thank you for giving me my freedom back. This wheelchair has changed my life completely. I can go outside again, visit friends, and feel like myself."

Legae, 39, Johannesburg

Looking Ahead

We are working hard to reach even more people in the months ahead. With each donation, large or small, you are helping someone move forward — quite literally.

Our goal remains to gift as many life-changing wheelchairs as possible, especially to vulnerable children and pensioners across South Africa who are often left behind by public systems.

Thank You

From all of us at The Sweethearts Foundation — and from every person now experiencing the joy of mobility — thank you. You are helping turn everyday plastic waste into something truly magical: hope on wheels.
