EXTRA FUNDS RAISED BEYOND SHIPPING COSTS WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT ONGOING PROGRAMMING AND PROJECTS. Please click on "Music for Life Africa" at the top of this page for more information! The 32 boxes from our amazing friends in Lexington will help MULIA establish a computer lab, equip the music program, provide health/hygiene/school/recreational supplies and library books, supply reusable bags/backpacks, and provide materials to make solar ovens as well as reusable menstrual pads and diapers.
These donated items will be life CHANGING and life SAVING for our community in the areas of education, health, environmental sustainability, and culture. Many in our community lack reliable access to clean water, adequate nutrition, healthcare, sufficient clothes, electricity, education, books, and the internet. Many children are affected by HIV and some are orphans. If left in the US some of these donated items would be thrown away, and re-use is much better for the environment.
MULIA serves over 600 individuals. Toothbrushes will help with basic hygiene. Cloth face masks will protect against COVID. Fabric will be used to make reusable menstrual pads that help girls stay in school. Books and school supplies will increase education. Music education increases confidence, pride, and the skills to be able to have performances that raise money for our center. Laptops will provide digital literacy and internet access. The boxes themselves will be used to create solar ovens.
At MULIA, we aim to empower Uganda's vulnerable youth by helping them discover and pursue their dreams of the future, regardless the circumstances of their pasts. We are also so excited for this connection to Lexington and welcome ongoing opportunities for cultural exchange. If this fundraiser results in any extra funds being raised beyond what is needed for shipping, we will use the money to support our ongoing programming and projects. Thank you for your support!
