The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting disadvantaged children in our school and orphanage, especially girls. Even before the pandemic, many families of the students in our school lived below the poverty line and struggled to survive on a daily basis. Garram Children's School offers our students an opportunity to acquire the skills and qualifications they need to obtain formal employment, especially girls. This enables them to determine their own futures, and to break the cycle of poverty.
The Covid-19 outbreak has made living conditions increasingly hard for our students and their families. Parents whose sole revenue is derived from informal work have abruptly lost their income. During lockdown they are prevented from working as a result of confinement measures. since they have no unemployment insurance ,these families are thus facing the double threat of both the virus itself and hunger- not able to feed their families and pay the small fees.
your donations will enable us to distribute urgently-needed basic essentials to our students and their families to help them protect themselves and limit the spread of the virus as : 1.Radios- for Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Program. https://www.educationcannotwait.org/, https://www.von.gov.ng/covid-19-plateau-orders-implementation-of-unicef-education-in) 2.Books and work books- English and Mathematics. 3.Kits to maintain hygiene standards, 4.a Classroom and Furniture for social distancing.
this offers our students an opportunity to acquire the skills and qualifications they need to obtain formal employment, especially girls. This enables them to determine their own futures, and to break the cycle of poverty in which their families have been trapped.
