Help Fund Scholarships for Afghan Students

Dear Friends, 

The scholarship recipients continue to thrive in the learning environment provided by the Sakena Yacoobi Private Schools in Kabul and Herat. There are 2,137 students in the 4 private schools and one private kindergarten. There are 1,208 girls and 929 boys. The second Herat school started as a branch out of the main Herat school. The Learning Center that was in the village wanted to start the school and was able to do so with assistance from AIL. The scholarships will be awarded to students at this second branch.

In the current school year, 2016/7, there are 24 CHI scholarship recipients at the second branch Herat school, 17 girls and 7 boys. The school has a total student body of 217, 115 girls and 102 boys. All the students are delighted to receive any support for their studies. Here is what Amena had to say , “I am one of the eleventh class student who received a scholarship at Professor Sakena Yaccobi private school and I am proud to have started here four years ago. It provides the best level of education available along with great classes in singing, leadership, library, laboratory and sports. The scholarship means I can do my studies for free.

 I am also a member of the leadership class where I have learned great leadership principles like planning, reading and many other essential skills. I also won one of the gold medal from gold medal program which was such a great thing for me and my family.

A number of the scholarship recipients are part of the special Leadership Course run by the Herat private school which they attend. The 15 boys and 15 girls on the course are enthusiastic about what they are learning and doing. Their projects were pinned on the classroom walls with photos, so everyone’s work is acknowledged and the students can learn from each other. Each month one student receives the title of Best Leader and their photo goes up on the wall also.All students had to read a book this month and give a presentation to the class. 

Graduates of the previous class remain active and gave a seminar to the new class called Ways to Communicate with Others. Two of the grads also went to Radio Meraj and gave an interview about the importance of leadership in social and economic areas and in student life.

One student had this to say, “My name is Homaira and I am proud to be a student of this school for five years. I have experienced the great facilities there are for students and all the modern curriculums. I am so happy about getting a scholarship. I am studying hard since there is friendly competition among students who receive scholarships at the school. One of the other great achievements of the organization is its great leadership training courses which is free for the top students and a gives scholarships for others. Being in this class is very important for us all since it leads to great levels of progress and makes great leaders.”
