A Patient's Story from Papua

By Team Bumi Sehat Papua | Project Leaders

Dear Friends

We recently had an email from Rachel, who runs the Bumi Sehat Papua Clinic. She told us a story about a returing patient, Ibu Wella, who felt so much love and attention during her first birth at Bumi Sehat that she returned for her second birth. Even though the second birth required a hospital transport and a Cesarean, Ibu Well was still supported and cared for through the entire process by Bumi Sehat Papua midwives.

When Ibu Wella first arrived at AHBS, she immediately sensed something different. The gentle voices and attentive care gave her a feeling of warmth and security that made it feel like far more than a healthcare facility. She received prenatal vitamins, physical exercises, baby-massage support and thoughtful attention to her needs as a mother. Her first child was born there, followed by her second through a Lotus Birth, both experiences leaving her with a lasting belief that childbirth can be a journey of dignity, gentleness and peace. Now preparing to welcome her third child, Wella plans to return to AHBS later this year, grateful for the care and respect she has come to trust.

Rachel writes: "It is hoped that from the wombs of mothers strengthened by such loving care, a "golden generation" of Papua will emerge—a generation growing up with hope, light, and a brilliant future."

This is why it is so important to keep training and lifting up our Papua midwives. Our team provides compassionate and enpowering maternal health care to mothers throughout the Sentani region.

This year, our hope is to raise enough support to send all four volunteer midwives back to school. Your generosity will strengthen maternal care for thousands of families in Papua for years to come by investing not only in individual midwives, but in the health and future of their entire community.

With love and gratitude,

Ibu Robin, Ibu Rachel and Team Bumi Papua
