The Nasio Trust’s Porridge Kitchen continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of 30 malnourished children and their mothers. The programme provides a nutritious porridge supplement, nutritional education, and fortified flour for home use. We are pleased to report that none of the children currently enrolled in the programme are suffering from acute malnutrition, with several showing notable improvements in their overall health outcomes.
In July, we were pleased to host three interns from the University of Birmingham, who conducted an in-depth evaluation of the Porridge Kitchen’s effectiveness. Based on their findings, we are enhancing our internal referral systems to strengthen coordination between our medical, community livelihoods, and social work teams—ensuring that no vulnerable child is overlooked.
We are also pleased to announce a new collaboration with York University in Canada, which will focus on the evaluation of nutritional and malnutrition intervention programmes across Western Kenya. This partnership will support us in adapting evidence-based approaches and improving the effectiveness of our own initiatives.
We remain deeply grateful for your continued support of The Nasio Trust and our mission to improve child health and well-being in rural Kenya.
