Help for Refugees

A severe cholera outbreak has already cost 2000 people their lives. Especially in densely populated Refugee camps, the situation is being aggravated.

“For the people in the camps, in the northeast of the country, the risk of contracting cholera is particularly high. Families live crowded together in small tents and huts. They share water and facilities with many other people. In such an environment, cholera can quickly spread dramatically” says a member organization of the alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft.

In the small town Pulka, near the border by Cameroon, in the east of the country, the safety situation is tense. Around 40,000 people have fled here to seek safety from Islamist terrorist organizations. At the same time, few aid organizations are local to care for the refugees.

„In Pulka alone, 27 people have already died of cholera in recent weeks.” Explains, a member organization of the alliance. Through member organizations the alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft, distribute chlorine tablets to clean contaminated water, and people are being educated in training sessions about the routes of infection. Rehydration solutions are distributed to the sick to give them the minerals they need to get better. Every day, our staff spray a chlorine solution into the tents, houses and latrines to disinfect them.
