This project seeks to help those affected by the mega fire of 2/2/24 in the Valparaiso region. According to our experience in disaster situations, emotional support and delivery of construction tools takes time to arrive. Therefore, within the first days we want to provide workshops, materials and tools that meet these needs. Then we will seek to participate in the reconstruction of community spaces that have been burned in the fire.
Chile is a country where, due to its geography and climatic conditions, catastrophes often occur. Lately, due to droughts and high temperatures, fires have been more common. This year, unfortunately, a forest fire in the Valparaiso Region entered urban areas that were highly affected, with more than 130 deaths and 15,000 homes affected. The material damage is invaluable and the emotional damage and stress of the victims has been devastating.
As a solution to this problem, we propose: Short term: 1) Artistic workshops for emotional support, games and distraction for children in shelters and damaged areas. 2) Workshops to support the mental health of adults such as: aromatherapy, cooking and needs that arise in the daily lives of families in shelters. In the medium term: 3) Construction workshop and materials for affected women. 4) Participation in the reconstruction of community spaces that have been burned.
The population affected by the fire is approximately 15,000 homes (a number that has varied over the days and there is still no record of the number of people affected) and we hope to be able to directly or indirectly benefit 5% of the affected population.
