Marking International Women's Day

Thanks so much for supporting Banaba's women!
Thanks so much for supporting Banaba's women!

First and foremost – thanks so much to everyone who gave on GlobalGiving’s most recent matching day! Your gifts on February 12th went 30% further than usual to ensure that families like Malene’s will weather floods unharmed.

The work you fund isn’t just about stockpiling food and emergency supplies – it’s also about investing in sustainable livelihoods. These livelihoods allow families to escape poverty and build their own resiliency.

In the Philippines, it’s often the women who shoulder the bulk of the family’s budgeting, so we were delighted to mark International Women’s Day with a workshop for local women around growing and selling organic vegetables.

These skills help women generate income and healthy food for their families – and that in turn helps local women build secure, resilient communities. This workshop is not a one off. Over the next six weeks workshops on sewing and making slippers will also take place.

All of these workshops have been funded by your generosity – thanks so much for investing women’s abilities to support their families! We can’t wait to update you on future workshops.

If you ever have any questions about how we’re using your donation, please don’t hesitate to email me directly at Emma@IDVolunteers.org. I would be delighted to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks again, and we wish you all the best!
