Feeding Hope for Goma's Children

By PASCAL NIYONZIMA | CORDINATOR

1. Humanitarian Context

In Goma, thousands of children are living in extremely difficult conditions. Years of armed conflict in North Kivu have weakened families, destroyed livelihoods, and worsened food insecurity.

In many households, even one meal a day has become a luxury. Children go to school hungry—or stop going altogether. This reality not only affects their health but also their ability to learn and dream of a better future.

2. Project Overview

The project “Help Feed War-Affected Children in Goma” aims to respond to this urgent need by establishing school canteens in public primary schools.

The goal is simple but essential:

  • Provide one hot, nutritious meal per day to each child
  • Encourage school attendance
  • Improve concentration and academic performance
  • Restore dignity and hope to children affected by conflict

The project relies on a local approach, using locally sourced food and engaging community volunteers.

3. Main Objectives

  • Reduce hunger among schoolchildren
  • Improve school access and retention
  • Support vulnerable families
  • Stimulate the local economy through food procurement
  • Contribute to long-term social stability

4. Beneficiaries

Direct beneficiaries include:

  • Children in public primary schools in Goma
  • Displaced and low-income families

Indirectly, the entire community benefits through strengthened social cohesion and support for local producers.

5. Budget and Funding Status

The total project budget is estimated at $10,000 USD.

So far, thanks to collaboration with GlobalGiving, $21 has been raised.

Although this amount is still modest, it represents an important first step. It reflects donor trust and marks the beginning of a growing wave of solidarity that we strongly believe will reach our goal.

6. Project Status

The project is currently in its preparation phase:

  • Identification of partner schools
  • Selection of facilitators and local teams
  • Identification of beneficiaries (students)
  • Organization of canteen logistics

The official launch is scheduled for November 2025.

7. Expected Results

  • Hundreds of children receiving daily meals
  • Improved school attendance
  • Better concentration and academic performance
  • Reduced child malnutrition
  • A lasting positive impact on children and the wider community

8. Long-Term Impact

Feeding a child is more than meeting an immediate need.
It gives them the strength to learn, grow, and build their future.

This project is part of a sustainable vision:

  • Breaking the cycle of poverty
  • Strengthening community resilience
  • Investing in a generation capable of rebuilding the region

9. Call to Donors

Today, we make a sincere and urgent appeal to all people of goodwill.

Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference:

  • 1 donation = 1 meal
  • 1 meal = 1 child learning
  • 1 educated child = a transformed future

With your support, and through our partnership with GlobalGiving, we are confident that we will achieve our goal. Together, we can change lives.

10. Acknowledgements

We express our deepest gratitude to all donors who have already supported this project. Your generosity brings hope to these children.

Thank you for believing in this cause. Thank you for being part of this mission.

Together, let’s feed hope and build a brighter future for the children of Goma.
