Donors Make the Difference!

By Katie Adams (for Chris and Krista Farrington) | Executive Director, NicaWorks!

100 pounds of rice is heavier than you'd think!
100 pounds of rice is heavier than you'd think!

We are so encouraged by some recent giving and support from local and international partners. The practical assistance these partners have given are complementing the financial support you're providing to continually improve and expand our care to the beautiful children we serve at CCLE and their families!

The American Nicaragua Foundation (ANF) is a local partner in Nicaragua that will call every few months or so for us to pick up donations….recently they called with some rice and beans, cleaning materials and clothing. We are so grateful for ANF's support which allow us to do even more!

Chachi enjoys the "puzzle" challenge of trying to fit a pile of stuff into the “Ambulance” mobile.  It is always a fun surprise to see what ANF donates…today the fun surprise was clorox wipes for each classroom:) -- something that is ALWAYS needed! The beautiful thing about Club Esperanza is we always have volunteers helping at moments like these too. Camilo is part of our High School group and Marvin is a member of the community that volunteers as an assistant in our Kindergarden class...a 100 pound sack of rice, that ain’t nothing!!!

Another long-term partner of ours - Austin Samaritans from Texas - came back down to CCLE in April after they learned about our desire to open a computer lab to help further our students' opportunities for education and advancement. Not only did they support the effort financially, they came down and build the shelving themselves, installed electrical and air conditioning, as well as painted the room and varnished the desk!

The world is shrinking and technology is allowing young people from all parts of the world to see things from a greater perspective. There are so many great opportunities for learning on the web and we do not want our children to be left behind! This computer lab is going to give them access to the world, but even more than that we hope to help them to develop the basic computer skills that will give them a real advantage in their future careers like being able to type correctly on a keyboard, use word processors, and be able to do advanced research on internet resources. This lab is going to really be a great asset for all of our kids!

There are items we would like to fund such as hiring a computer lab monitor, upgrading our technology, the monthly electrical costs, software updates, changing the door to the room for one with glass windows, etc. If you're interested in having your donation go toward these costs please note "Computer Lab" on your giving. We are so grateful for your ongoing interest in and support for our work!

We never know what we'll get from ANF!
