Drought and food insecurity are putting vulnerable children in Karamoja at risk of hunger and disrupted learning. Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda will establish a community lunch centre serving 500 schoolchildren with nutritious meals during one school term, prioritizing children identified through local assessment as facing the greatest food insecurity.
Karamoja is facing severe food insecurity caused by drought, poor harvests, livestock losses and high food prices. Children are among those most affected, with hunger affecting their wellbeing and ability to learn. Although food assistance reaches many schools, some vulnerable children remain inadequately served. CBIU will identify a community where additional school-feeding support is urgently needed.
CBIU will establish a community lunch centre in a drought-affected area of Karamoja. After a local assessment, 500 vulnerable schoolchildren will be registered to receive a nutritious lunch on school days for one term. CBIU will organize food purchasing, preparation and serving, while maintaining attendance and meal records and monitoring the programme to ensure transparent use of donations.
The project will help 500 vulnerable children receive regular nutritious meals while remaining engaged in school during a period of severe food insecurity. CBIU will document lessons, costs and results to strengthen future community-based responses to child hunger and develop a sustainable model that can eventually reach more vulnerable children in Karamoja.
