To minimize the feelings of loneliness, the families gathering brought together seven families and their children with disabilities, in addition to one resident beneficiary from Four Homes of Mercy, on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.
This event was much more than a holiday celebration. It represented the first time these families and their children had gathered in an activity specifically designed for them. Previously, they had participated only in general activities organized by the institution. This dedicated event provided a safe and welcoming space where families could meet one another, exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and build meaningful relationships with others who understand their daily realities.
The gathering began with warm Eid greetings and welcoming remarks before moving into a series of interactive activities designed to encourage participation and strengthen connections among attendees.
The activities were met with great enthusiasm from both children and parents and filled the day with laughter, joy, to mark the occasion, symbolic gifts were distributed to all participating beneficiaries as a gesture of appreciation and care.
During the event, one of the nursing staff also assessed a beneficiary suffering from pressure ulcers and provided the family with important health guidance regarding treatment, prevention, and daily care practices aimed at improving the beneficiary’s health and wellbeing.
An important part of the gathering was dedicated to listening to families themselves.
Parents were invited to share their ideas and suggestions for future activities and programs they would like to see implemented. The social worker carefully documented their recommendations and discussed possible ways to incorporate them into future programming, emphasizing the importance of family participation in planning service
The gathering concluded in a warm and positive atmosphere filled with appreciation and mutual support.
Parents expressed their happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in a gathering designed specifically for their families. Many emphasized how valuable it was to meet other parents facing similar challenges, exchange experiences, and feel part of a supportive community that understands their journey.
This gathering successfully achieved its goals of strengthening social connections among families, creating joyful experiences for children and parents alike, and fostering a stronger sense of belonging and inclusion.
The Four Homes of Mercy team looks forward to organizing similar gatherings in the future as part of its ongoing commitment to empowering families of persons with disabilities and ensuring that no family feels alone in its journey.
Together, we are building stronger families, stronger communities, and brighter futures for people with disabilities.
