#FreeAustinTice: Update from RSF

By Leigh Burke | Project Leader

#FreeAustinTice Banner
#FreeAustinTice Banner

On November 2, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Newseum in Washington, D.C. were honored to unveil a banner for Austin Tice on the Newseum’s façade. Debra Tice, RSF, the Washington Post and the Newseum called on Barack Obama to bring Austin home before the end of his Administration. The banner features a photo of Austin Tice and the message "Held captive for being a journalist since August 2012."

The location of the Newseum along Pennsylvania Avenue provides a prominent and visible reminder that an American is still missing, and it is our American leadership that needs to bring him home. The banner will remain in place until he is safely returned home to his family.

Austin Tice is the only American journalist held captive in Syria, according to RSF and other sources. With your generosity, RSF has supported the Tice family with media attention, guidance and financial support in the search for their son. We thank you, the donors of this Fund, for your support as we continue to work for Austin's return.

We hope that if you're in Washington, DC, you will visit the Newseum, view the banner and share a photo on social media. If not, please share Austin's story. We look forward to the day we can take the banner down with Austin as our very special guest.
