Success and Continuing Challenges

RSF with Jason and Ali Rezaian
RSF with Jason and Ali Rezaian

The most exciting news to report is the January release of Washington Post bureau chief Jason Rezaian from Evin Prison in Teheran! The fund was started during Jason's imprisonment and we were able to support Jason's brother Ali in many ways, including by providing financial support for Ali's travel on his brother's behalf. We were delighted to celebrate with Ali, Jason, and Jason's wife, Yeganeh Salehi when they returned to Washington, DC.  We hope you will read more about Jason's imprisonment and release in the attached press release.

We have also supported Debra and Marc Tice as they work tirelessly to secure the release of their son Austin who has being held in Syria since 2012.  It was been an extremely difficult road for the Tices as they continue meet with government officials, journalists, friends and anyone who has information on Austin's whereabouts. Your donations have supported them, and they include you in their warm appreciation. We hope to be celebrating with them as we did with the Rezaian family soon.

Sadly, there are many other journalists and news providers who are now in harm's way, leaving many families struggling to get answers and bring their loved ones home. This Fund for Families has provided direct and critical support to them as they work through the maze of people who can help them. Some have gone public, others have not, but we hope that you know that your support will go directly to the Families who need it.
