Since our last report, the new COVID-19 variants have caused setbacks for economic recovery in Colombia. The 21million people living in poverty, are finding it hard to overcome the shocks of the pandemic. Gladly, the support of our friends and donors allowed us to alleviate suffering and need amongst 160 families throughout the last months. These were identified through the follow-up carried out by Conviventia’s interdisciplinary team. Sixty families linked to our education projects received support to ensure their children could stay at school and also received a voucher that they could use to purchase food and toiletries according to their needs. Over one hundred children received help with school supplies.
The number of Venezuelan migrants at the Conviventia projects continues to increase. As of August 2021, Colombia hosted 1.84 million refugees and migrants from Venezuela, more than any other country in the region. Affected by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, they face severe obstacles to earn livelihoods and meet their basic needs. An average 25% of the people served, are migrants or Colombian returnees.
