This project will provide emergency funding for food assistance and educational support for children and families impacted by COVID-19 in the impoverished communities of El Pozon, Lucero Alto and Cazuca, Colombia. Our goal is to raise $ 10,000 for each of these three communities, helping families put food on the table and ensuring over 2300 children can continue their holistic education at the CDA Schools and pursue their dreams to break free from the cycle of poverty.
Our communities have been devastated by the impacts of COVID-19. Violence, fear, hunger, and hopelessness have increased as the nationwide lock-down led to the collapse of Colombia's street economy, eliminating the only source of income for over 50% of the families linked to our projects. Immediately our project directors began receiving phone calls from families in crisis, not able to put food on the table. In April we saw an 80% drop in families' abilities to cover educational expenses.
Your contribution will bring much needed emergency food to these families and tuition assistance so that the children can continue to attend the Conviventia Schools. You will also be supporting our teachers, who are working long hours and finding creative ways to deliver distance learning to our students. And by supporting this work, you can recognize and thank our social workers, who are on the front lines providing counseling and support to families in crisis.
Our mission and programs are designed to bring lasting transformation in the hearts and minds of these students and their families. By healing the brokenness, helping people abandon the poverty mindset, providing access to quality education and technical skills training, counseling and strengthening families, and providing support for basic services, we empower children and families to forge their own path out of poverty and lead fruitful and fulfilling lives.
