Are we ready to start a new school year?

By America Developing Smiles | Fundraising team

Dear Donors,

We would like to start this note with a story about one of our teachers in Venezuela. Her name is Marlo and she has been diagnosed as malnourished, after a program against hunger was implemented in our school earlier this year. We wonder how a person like Marlo, with her best intentions and her great desire to do her best as a teacher, can have enough energy to carry out her work?

Our dedication now is not only to children, but also the teachers and staff members who work in our schools. With a program of nutritious food that includes protein, we will be able to improve both school and work performance. In our schools “education is a matter of the heart”, but if they don’t manage to have a good diet, they will not have the energy to give the best of each. With your support, we will be able to keep our children and workers away from malnutrition.

It is September already! It has been a year since we started this project thanks to your support. This month we are receiving registrations at the 3 schools and getting ready to start classes in October.

Here is a summary of what has been happening in the last 2 months:

-Classes ended July 15 with 2,371 students between the 3 schools.

-42 students graduated from high school at Centro Mama Margarita: 30 specialized in Clinical Lab, and 12 in Sports and Recreation.

-47 students graduated from Centro Gustavito Garcia Lujan.

-Repair of basketball courts.

-Repair of students’ bathrooms.

-Painting around all areas of schools.

-Repair preschool playing area.

-Conditioning of wires and electric box at Don Felipe Rinaldi school.

Our goals for this school year:

-Maintain the nutritional programs throughout the year.

-Keep assisting with technical support such as computers and printers.

-Open last grade at Don Felipe Rinaldi school, where we estimate to graduate 70 students.

-Install an electric transformer 75kVA at Don Felipe Rinaldi because of the increase in students.

Other long-term goals:

-Bleachers for school sports courts.

-Air Conditioning in some classrooms.

-Multipurpose room for schools.

We will keep you updated on the first trimester of the school year.

We thank you all for your continuous support.
