Thanks to your generosity, Eastmont Community Center has served 931 hot meals to low-income older adults and families across East Los Angeles. Through four community meal distributions, local staff and residents worked side-by-side to prepare and share nutritious food with neighbors in need. Many of the volunteers were retired seniors seeking meaningful ways to stay engaged — turning the project into both a community service and a social connection opportunity.
One participant, a 72-year-old woman living on a fixed income, shared that her CalFresh benefits no longer last through the month and that Eastmont’s hot meal distributions have helped her maintain steady access to food when she couldn’t afford groceries.
Stories like hers highlight why this project matters — and why continued support is vital. We’re grateful to announce a $20,000 charitable contribution from Open Bank Foundation that will help us expand this initiative into a workforce development model, empowering older adults to prepare meals that nourish their community while supplementing their income.
Thank you for helping us keep East LA fed and connected.
