This project will allow Eastmont to prepare and distribute 1,000 hot meals to low-income Latino families and older adults in East Los Angeles-offering hope and comfort as community need grows due to federal food assistance cuts.
In 2024, food insecurity affected 30% of L.A. County households, with Latino families (77%), women (59%), and older adults hit hardest. Many low-income residents are affected by recent federal food assistance budget cuts, Eastmont addresses this by preparing and distributing hot meals to older adults with disabilities, and families in crisis-offering immediate relief and promoting long-term food equity.
Eastmont will prepare and distribute 1,000 hot meals to residents without access to kitchens, experiencing food insecurity, or relying on public benefits like CalFresh. The project provides immediate relief to help stabilize struggling food insecure households in East Los Angeles.
Eastmont seeks to establish a social enterprise that addresses food insecurity while creating pathways for economic inclusion. Long term impact, Eastmont plans to employ older adults and adults with disabilities to help prepare meals for the community, expanding food access and strengthening local resilience through a sustainable, community-driven solution.
