Help dogs rescued from the barbaric dog meat trade

Soi Dog Foundation has recently been making great strides in finding loving homes for the dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. Thanks to partnerships with rescue organisations in the US and Canada, 600 dogs have found their forever homes.

The dogs that have been rehomed from the dog meat trade were initially housed at a government run shelter in Buriram, Thailand, before heading the the Soi Dog shelter in Phuket for assessment and rehabilitation where required. While the Buriram shelter is government run, Soi Dog supporters fund the feeding, veterinary care and shelter improvements for these dogs.

The ultimate aim is to empty the Buriram shelter, and find homes for each and every dog. While this is a challenge in itself, wonderful progress has been made with only a few hundred dogs remaining from an initial total of over 1000. However, due to the closure of another government run shelter, located in Thon Pha Phum, approximately 500 new dogs have arrived at the Buriram shelter, once again increasing the number of dogs Soi Dog need to find homes for.

Soi Dog will never turn their back on these dogs, but help is needed from supporters like you. Not only will supporters continue to fund the feeding, medical care and sheltering of the dogs rescued from the dog meat trade, but will do all they can to rehabilitate these dogs and find them homes.

To do this, several new enclosures have been built to house the dogs prior to adoption at the Phuket shelter. They also have their own dedicated vet to ensure their health and a team of behaviourists on hand to help those who have been traumatised from their previous experiences. These dogs will have the very best chance to have the future they deserve. There are also future plans to build more runs, and a dedicated behaviour and enhancement area.
