Thank you for your important support for Soi Dog Foundation's campaign to eliminate the horrific dog meat trade in Thailand and the surrounding region.
While tens of thousands of dogs were smuggled from Thailand to Vietnam every year in the past, we are very happy to report that we have seen almost no evidence of the export of live dogs from Thailand for the meat trade for several months. However, the dog meat traders haven't given up. Soi Dog and our partner, Watch Dog Thailand, have placed agents in northeast Thailand who are finding more signs of the dog meat trade within Thailand, and we are determined to also bring this to an end. Additionally, we are finding more evidence of the use of dog skins for leather, and we have supported raids on homemade tanneries that process dog skin to produce leather. We don't yet know where this leather is sold, but it may be exported worldwide labeled as very soft cow leather for products such as golf gloves.

Soi Dog Foundation is determined to eliminate the dog meat trade in the region. Vietnam is responsible for the majority of dog meat consumption in Southeast Asia and now that we have attacked the supply side of the international trade, the next step is to address the demand in Vietnam. The best way to do this is through ACPA (Asia Canine Protection Alliance), our partnership with Animals Asia, Humane Society International, and Change for Animals Foundation. A couple weeks ago, a meeting was held in Hanoi to plan ACPA's approach and we decided to launch a multipronged public awareness campaign in Vietnam to persuade people not to eat dog meat. Additionally, some of our colleagues in Vietnam are doing research to find the sources of the dogs eaten there and where the animals are slaughtered, which will help us determine where to focus our undercover work.
