Help dogs rescued from the barbaric dog meat trade

While dogs are still being subjected to the barbaric dog meat trade, Soi Dog will not stop doing all they can to save them, and find them loving homes. These dogs can only be helped thanks to people like you, who support Soi Dog's work through GlobalGiving. 

In Vietnam, a series of films financed by Soi Dog and produced by the national television channel, exposed the corruption and cruelty of the local dog and cat meat trade. Soi Dog Foundation co-founder, John Dalley, recently met with senior officials in Hanoi, Vietnam, to discuss the ending of dog and cat meat consumption in the city within five years. He was accompanied by other staff members from Soi Dog Foundation and members of “Instinct de Vies”, a French-founded, Vietnam-based dog and cat welfare group.

The city of Hanoi has requested help from Soi Dog to end rabies and train veterinarians. A firm commitment from the mayor and the people’s committee was also given to close the existing known 700 plus establishments selling dog and cat meat.

Asia’s dog meat trade will only end through pressure for legislative change and this will not happen overnight. However, Soi Dog Foundation is in this fight for the long-haul, and are hopeful major progress can be made in 2018 based on current discussions with the authorities.

A victim of the vile dog meat trade, Jess was snatched from the streets of Thailand and crammed into a cage that was not even big enough for one dog to stand in. But Jess was not alone.

That cage already had several other petrified dogs in it. The cage was flung on top of another cage, on a truck carrying hundreds of such cages. Several hundred innocent Thai dogs were headed across the border where they would face torture and slaughter in Vietnam. But thanks to the support of people like you, Jess - and all those travelling with her - were rescued that day.

Their rescue, and the rescue of thousands of others over the years, signaled the beginning of the end for Thailand's dog meat trade. Thanks to everyone who has joined the fight against the Asian dog meat trade, Jess and thousands of others have escaped unbelievable cruelty and the most horrendous death. Jess was adopted and now lives with a wonderful family in Scotland, where she is so very loved.

Thank you for being a voice for the dogs of Asia. With more people like you on board, many more animals like Jess can be saved from the Asian dog meat trade.
