What news at the GAC project?
It is statistically proven that the life of a person living with HIV/AIDS is significantly influenced by his or her psychological wellbeing. We have seen many people succumb to the AIDS virus, while others live full lives in similar situations. The difference seems to be how they perceive themselves. Some people experience despair, isolate themselves, and don’t come forward to use the available medical help, culminating in a weaked immune system: they succumb more quickly to the virus, with terrible consequences for themselves, their families and the community.
At GAC we train people to have a positive mental attitude and to forgive and let go of the past and move forward: they come to accept the situation they find themselves in, seek appropriate medical support, learn to cope with the stigma they face, let go of the past and build a new future.
Recently we decided to extend our breathing sessions to cancer survivors. The results were extrememely encouraging. We found that. like with our work with HIV/AIDS, a lot of people were unable to express their feelings in words and greatly benefitted from being able to epxress them through our therapeutic breathing sessions. We are delighted when they shared with us how relaxed, joyful and energetic they felt after a session with us
We are looking forward to train more ambassadors with skills and knowledge suitable for working with people with life-threatening illnesses. We are applying to an International Trust and looking for support from individual donors to increase our programmes over the next two years.
Thank you for reading. This is our news for now. See you again next time. Bye!
