The goal of this project is to help provide food, water, access to education, rent security and improved access to healthcare. We work alongside seven community development projects here in Pokhara to reach those in need.
7 centres, schools and clubs need financial aid to provide security for basic resources. There is a children's home that provides food and shelter for street children. A day care centre that provides a safe environment for children with working parents. A centre that provides special-needs therapies. There is a youth group that focuses on English skills and two women's empowerment projects. Lastly, there is a school that helps cash-strapped families with scholarships.
Aside from working alongside local project staff, GVI would like to help by providing resource donations from supplying a year's worth of food to the children's homes, increasing hygiene awareness at the day care centres, equipment for the therapy centres and training for the youth group. We would also like to add computer lessons and vocational training to our partner projects.
Long term goals at these centres include better education, improved hygiene and capacity building. Providing full bellies, focusing on hygiene at an early age and creating English training programs means underprivileged children and adults are able to improve their own lives. Girls will be empowered through focused attention and extra opportunities so that they may become community leaders.
