Jaymar has irreversible contracture on his left knee that caused him unable to walk properly. He was a victim of hit and run accident when he was two years old. The child and other siblings are abandoned by their parents since 2003 until now. They are currently staying with their maternal grandparents who are farmers and tilt the agricultural land owned by a private person.
The child was referred by a CBR volunteer in the area who felt pity with the plight of the child to Loving Presence Foundation, Inc. The staff then visited the child and found out that he was qualified for an assistive device which is customized to aid him in ambulation. After a month the device was fitted to Jaymar. It was such a heart warming event. The grandmother sheds tears upon looking at her grandson riding on his new wheelchair. And promised to send the child to school as the school year opens.
When we visited the child again as promised by the grandmother, Jaymar now is attending classes and is an honor pupil of his class. It takes a kilometer to reach Jaymar’s school but he still able to go to school daily. His older brother helped him maneuver the wheelchair. He is full of zeal in his studies. Despite of all the hardship brought by the parents abandonment aggravated by the accident that caused his disability he’s still hopeful and looks life beautifully.
Jaymar is one of the few PWD children who views disability in a different way. For him it is a blessing in disguise. For he believes that even in the darkest part of life there’s always a ray of hope and joy. Indeed, the disability caused by that incident served as fuel for him to study even harder. Give what is best in him. As the school year about to end, he belongs to top five in his class. Jaymar dream that someday he will attain the success that he really deserves and he will experience the abyss of fulfillment.
