Last week we held a community engagement event in Simonga to inform the community of our plans for a youth friendly space, and to get their input on the activities that we will be delivered. The community expressed their excitement for the upcoming project and gave it their full support.
The renovation and expansion of a container, where teens and young adults can meet to talk about pressing issues around sexual and reproductive health and positive hygiene practices. The users will have access to a computer for school work and other administrative tasks, as well as a safe space to learn through play and discussion. We intend for the YFS at Simonga to be a centre of excellence and a pilot for future YFS in Zambia.
We are now in the process of finalising the design of the space, with the facility staff and community members, and hope to put an advert out for a contracter to begin work in August, and so that we can launch the Youth Friendly Space in September.
