Advocacy Meeting In Jharkhand on IMS Act

Dear Donors,

 

Greetings from BPNI!

 

BPNI conducted a state level consultation for health professionals on breastfeeding promotion and IMS Act in Jharkhand, India on 21st January 2020 at the Institute of Public Health.

 

The welcome address was done by Dr.A.K.Mishra, Deputy Director -cum Nodal officer Child Health.  The objectives and expectation of the consultation were shared by Dr.V.S.Das , Director of Institute of Public Health.

 

Dr.Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia, IAS, MD, National Health Mission presented the key note address.

 

The key areas of concerns of the consultation were discussing the public health importance of breastfeeding in the backdrop of iycf indices in Jharkhand. Creating support for mothers to breastfeed successfully through national programmes implementation was also discussed.

 

The participants were apprised on the provision of IMS Act the baby law in India that protects mothers and babies from baby food industries commercial influence.

 

There was also a group session on hospital assessment of breastfeeding practices. The government officials were apprised on self assessment tool and external assessment process of health facilities to further improve for better practices with BPNI's technical help and hand holding.

 

There was a session on practicing how to monitor the compliance of IMS Act. The officials will made to check labels of infant mil substitutes and food and apprised on how to check the whether it follows at labelling provisions under the law. It was done in groups and after the session each group presented their findings.

 

The consultation was conducted in partnership with Unicef, Jharkhand and National Health Mission Jharkhand.
