In this report, Leadership Initiatives would like to introduce one of our Leadership Initiative’s Business Owners- Muhammadu.  Kawu Irrigation farm is ran by Muhammadu, a resident of Bayara, Bauchi state. Muhammadu inherited this line of business and the lands from his father, irrigation farming has been a family business for them and he took over the work from his father.

He is very passionate about Irrigation farming, as he sees this as an opportunity to feed his community and also provide for his family all year round. Early 2013, he came in contact with LI and has since been working with LI on the secondary business creation program, to help expand his business and create bigger and better opportunities for him to increase and improve his crop production and community impact.

Muhammadu tells of how much impact the Business Alliance program with LI has changed the business he has known all his life and how much he has learnt from the Harvard program with brilliant business changing ideas from the participating students. The impact of the program has helped improve his business management skills, and also produce greater yield for his farm produce through improved soil fertility ideas from the Harvard Envision Leadership program students.

Because of you, there are more jobs, orphans cared for and opportunities for communities in Nigeria. You can learn more at www.lichange.org or view the program pamphlet and benefits sheet attached.

If you would like to learn more about our business creation programs please visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find out about their personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a Skype call with a business owner!

Also if you had a moment could you tell us why you donated and how you heard of us, we are always trying to better refine our message and reach more people with our call to change. Thank you for also helping us, understand wonderful people like you better!

Wishing you, your friends and especially your family the absolute best this Holiday Season!

Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives donors,

Our Young Innovators Program has taken off with astonishing success because of your support and the hard work of hundreds of high school students from across the United States.

As of March 3rd, our International Business Alliance Program has expanded to 30 schools across the USA, transforming over 155 lives and it is our goal in 2016 to have 60 plus schools across the United States. Expanding leadership capacity of hundreds of high school students on a local and regional level throughout the world creating a new generation of leaders with a greater understanding and depth of experience in international development.

One such individual whose live you have helped change is Lily who recently wrote about her experience in the program.

Working with Leadership Initiatives has been the most amazing experience. I first heard about Leadership Initiatives and the IBAP program while attending the Envision National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security. Mr. Marshall Bailly III was one of the speakers for the diplomacy aspect of the forum and I was immediately interested in what he had to say; when he asked for students interested in becoming active with the organization to come speak to him after his presentation, I immediately rushed to the front.

Soon after, I received an email from Mr. Bailly about the process to become a partner school for the IBAP. I seized the opportunity, immediately rounding up a group of friends and completing the application. After formally becoming a partner school, Mr. Bailly and I organized a time to videochat with the entire team and introduce us into the program. Mr. Bailly introduced us to our mentor, Ms. Kinzer, as well as our partner business, a mobile textile business. We figured out our roles as a team as well as what was expected of us, and we went to work immediately, making sure to use the wonderful resources provided to us including free SAT preparation, mentorship, and sponsorship by various organizations. The whole process progressed very quickly. Within a month, I had gone from a girl with a dream to change the world to one with a team and a real opportunity to make a difference.

The program has been an amazing experience. My team’s mentor is such an amazing role model; she serves as an advocate, advisor, and, of course, dear friend. After only a few calls with her, I know that she is such an amazing person and she has already provided me with so many resources I never would have had access to as well as insights into the future. For example, after talking to her about what I hope to achieve in my career, she connected me with her brother who followed exactly the same path I hope to. I have gained so much direction and she has helped me to plan my future. Mr. Bailly himself has been an incredible mentor as well. He is always available should my team need any help and is always very kind, clear, considerate, and timely in his communications with my team.

The IBAP program means so much to me personally and I know that it will help me with my goals and pursuits. I love knowing that every day I am making a real impact on someone’s life and, in my own way, am making the world a better place. In addition to that personal satisfaction, the IBAP program will also help me achieve my ultimate goals for the future. My team feels that same way and we are all so grateful for this incredible program!

Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives donors,

Our Young Innovators Program has taken off with astonishing success because of your support and the hard work of hundreds of high school students from across the United States.

As of December 16th 2014, our International Business Alliance Program has expanded to 30 schools across the USA.

The program you helped crated titled the International Business Alliance Program or IBAP is designed to inspire and coordinate the efforts of young leaders in high schools to create global change. Leadership Initiatives expands leadership capacity of hundreds of high school students on a local and regional level throughout the world creating a new generation of leaders with a greater understanding and depth of experience in international development.

Student leaders are paired directly with individual program participants/business leaders from around the globe with a mission to assist in solving local development issues through business development, thus fostering cross-cultural collaboration that strengthens developing leaders in both nations. LI IBAP benefits students in the development of character, motivation and drive for the future. Once in the program many opportunities become available to participating high school students.

In the past 5 months alone students have begun creating new ways to irrigate farms across Bauchi, develop new photography methods for our photoshop in Yelewa, recycle fish who die prematurly within our fish farms by turning them into feed and fertalizer, taught new soddering methods to our welders and help create new patterns of dresses for our tailoring shops.

In the next six months students will begin creating advertising plans for their parnter businesses while raising money for skills training for new and upcoming LI business intiatives.

You can learn more at www.LIIBAP.org or view the program pamplet and benefits sheet attached along with our highlighted business partner the Hadisu.

If you would like to learn more about our IBAP program or their business partners visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find out about their personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a skype call with a business owner!

Dear Leadership Initiatives donors,

This report is to let you know just some of the good that your donation is letting Leadership Initiatives do. Out of the 54 businesses Leadership Initiatives has active in Bauchi Nigeria over 67 business owners and employees participating in our Orphan Independence and Skills Program. Because of you classes will continue and grow teaching business owners and they employees how to care for Orphans and LI staff will continue to monitor their development.

Our skills training portion of the program will also expand allowing more Orphans of age to take on apprenticeships of participating business owners.

I would like to introduce to you one family that this program has helped form and through your donations an example of the families that will continue to be created in the future

Jamil is a 16 year old orphan who is a part of our Independence and Skills Program. Jamil lost his father five years ago and last year started an official apprenticeship with Danliti (owner of the Adbullahi’s Shoemaker Shop). Jamil has been under Danliti's care for about 4 years, Danliti took him in about a year after Jamil lost his parents.

Jamil was hanging outside of Danliti's cobbling shop looking to help out and earn some extra money to survive. Danliti began to inquire about his family, his future plans and the challenges he faced. After Jamil had told him he had to stop attending school because he lost his father who had been paying for his tuition, Danliti opted to pay for his fees and give him some extra money for his welfare.

Danliti took notice of Jamil because of his commitment and dedication to hard work (he tried to work in Danliti's shop without Danliti even asking him to), giving Jamil a  special place in Danliti’s heart.

Jamil has since graduated from his apprentichip and now has a job at the cobbling shop, learning more about the skill while attending school during the day and helping his paying for his brothers and sisters care.

Danliti started his business as a small shoe shine shop, and through the help LI provided, he was able to expand his business not only a shoe repair facility but actually produce footwear himself.

The fact that he is a local business with a community presence has allowed him to successfully complete with international companies.  Because he has a physical shop and has worked to develop relationships with the community, he has been able to offer repair services to his customers.

He has also reinvested in his community.  He has been able to bring on several employees.  He also has agreed to take care of several orphans, and to teach them the cobbling trade so they can earn a living in adulthood.

If you would like to learn more about Jamil, Danliti, or any of the other LI business owners, visit our new website at www.lichange.org.  There you can find out about their personal stories, meet members of the community, view photo galleries, or even set up a skype call with a business owner!

Also if you had a moment could you tell us why you donated and how you heard of us, we are always trying to better refine our message and reach more people with our call to change. Thank you for also helping us, understand amazing people like you better!

Wishing you, your friends and especially your family the absolute best this Autumn!

Sincerely,

Marshall and the entire LI family
