Project Overview:
The construction of the multi-sports court at our Kayunga Community Center remains a vital initiative under Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda. This facility will provide rural children with a safe and structured environment for sports, fostering physical activity, teamwork, and community engagement within Kayunga District.
Progress Summary (November – February):
Funding Milestones:
Over the past few months, our fundraising efforts have yielded significant progress:
International Olympic Committee Grant: We successfully secured a grant from the International Olympic Committee, which will support a substantial portion of the court’s construction costs.
Truth Design Academy Proceeds: As part of our social enterprise model, revenue generated from Truth Design Academy—our technical training program in STEM and multimedia—has been allocated to supplement the construction budget.
Local Fundraising Efforts: Community-driven initiatives, including local fundraising events and partnerships with sports organizations, continue to play a crucial role in mobilizing resources.
Construction Progress:
Ground Leveling: The land has been fully cleared and leveled, ensuring a solid foundation for the upcoming construction phases.
Drainage Solutions: A comprehensive drainage system has been designed and will be implemented to prevent water accumulation and ensure the court remains functional year-round.
Concrete Base Installation: The construction of the court’s concrete base is now scheduled to begin in March, marking a significant step toward completion.
Basketball Infrastructure: Previously installed basketball posts remain in good condition and will be integrated into the finalized structure.
Challenges and Immediate Priorities:
Unpredictable Weather: Rainy conditions have posed minor delays, reinforcing the need for effective drainage solutions.
Final Funding Requirements: While the recent funding boost has propelled the project forward, additional support is still required for finishing touches such as painting, fencing, and installing additional sports equipment.
Grass Overgrowth Management: Regular maintenance continues to keep the cleared area ready for construction.
Financial Update:
With the newly acquired funds, we have surpassed $6,500 towards the project, significantly reducing the budget gap. However, we remain committed to securing the remaining funds for final enhancements.
Expected Impact Upon Completion:
Safe and Inclusive Sports Space: A secure and dedicated environment for children to engage in sports, reducing risks associated with unstructured play areas.
Health and Wellness Benefits: Encouraging regular physical activity, promoting fitness, and enhancing mental well-being for youth in the community.
Community Cohesion: Strengthening social ties by providing a communal gathering space for events, training, and recreational activities.
Talent and Skills Development: Enabling children and young people to develop athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
Next Steps:
Finalizing preparations for concrete casting in early March.
Implementing the drainage system to mitigate water-related challenges.
Mobilizing additional resources for painting, fencing, and equipment installation.
Continuing community engagement to maximize the court’s long-term sustainability and impact.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to our supporters, partners, and community members for their unwavering commitment to this project. With construction advancing steadily, we look forward to celebrating the completion of the multi-sports court, which will stand as a lasting asset for Kayunga’s youth and broader community.
Stay tuned for further updates as we move closer to realizing this vision!
