Help Joy survive sickle cell

This is a report from Stephan and Rejoice’s family, transcribed from the father’s account:

“Rejoice is now twelve. Compared to before, from December until now she really has not had difficulties. She goes to the hospital for monthly check-ups. In one of these check-ups, the doctors kept her in the hospital due to general weakness, stomach ache, and yellowing of the eyes. She spent 3 days there, but it was not like the crises we had before. From the last check-up, her blood is fine, she weighs 26 kilos, and her hemoglobin is 7.9. She does well in school and has many friends, but we advise her not to play too much.

Stephan used to have so many crises when he was a child. He is now 22 and strong and has only gone to the hospital for check-ups since December. He is strong. He is doing well at his workplace. I think he is better because of the folic acid and because of the traditional herbs I give them daily. It really worked on Stephan. He is stronger than I have ever seen him. He has had a light fever and his usual back pain. We have gone for check-ups only twice in this period. We go and come back. He has not been hospitalized. We went to check his blood level and weight. He weighs 47 kilos and his hemoglobin is at 6.6.”
