Around one child a week is diagnosed with Rb in the UK, and CHECT is the only UK charity solely supporting those affected with this rare condition. In addition to this, hundreds of babies and children are undergoing distressing and invasive treatment at any one time. For families it is an incredibly worrying and lonely time - CHECT support workers are there to help by providing support, information and a friendly face.

It was such a comfort to know that Lesley was there if I ever needed her and that if I had any questions I could ask her. CHECT was there for me from the day that Tyraah was diagnosed. Lesley was at the hospital at every appointment and always made time to come and see us. Tyraah absolutely loves her and always gives her a cuddle when she sees her."
CHECT's mission is to prevent sight loss and death as a result of Rb, and to support those affected by it. We do this in three ways; supporting children diagnosed with Rb and their families, driving earlier diagnosis through raising awareness, and helping fund research into treatments and care of those affected. From being there at the day of diagnosis, CHECT continues to support families throughout their Rb journeys, with family weekends, meet-ups and events for children, teenagers and adults.
