This lifesaving project protects Ugandan school children from road traffic dangers. By deploying trained volunteers, safety gear, and community engagement, it ensures safe crossings and empowers children as road safety ambassadors. Your support helps reduce fatalities, build a culture of safety, and protect Uganda's most vulnerable.
Uganda faces a severe road safety crisis. In 2016, road crash fatalities rose by 25.9%, with 24 deaths for every 10 people involved daily. Vulnerable users, especially school children, are most at risk due to rising vehicle numbers, poor infrastructure, and weak enforcement. Crashes cost UGX 4.4 trillion yearly (5% of GDP). Pedestrians account for 39% of casualties, highlighting the urgent need for targeted action.
This project tackles our community's road safety crisis by helping children cross dangerous roads safely. Trained volunteers, safety gear, and school partnerships will instil road safety knowledge and discipline. Children become safety ambassadors in their communities, while engagement with parents, schools, and authorities fosters a culture of responsibility and long-term change.
The project will reduce child road accidents and deaths, promote safer road use habits, and empower communities to take ownership of road safety. Trained children will spread safety awareness to peers and families. Over time, this will drive policy change, improve enforcement, and foster a safety-first culture, leading to fewer crashes, lower healthcare costs, and better quality of life.
